Mulgrave Road Theatre’s success over the past 30 years as a leading Canadian theatre touring company is being celebrated this week with a double event.
The theatre is presenting By the Dark of the Moon in Guysborough at the new Chedabucto Place Performance Centre on July 27-29th. The Mulgrave Road Theatre, which usually takes its production on the road, is celebrating its 30th anniversary at home. What makes this production so special is that the theatre will be playing to a home audience on every night of the play.
As part of the theatre’s celebrations it is also hosting a fundraising chair auction. Chairs from as far away as Musquodoboit Harbour have been donated by supporters and friends of the Mulgrave Road Theatre. Elisabeth and Adrien Blanchette of the Salmon River Inn collaborated to design and paint their chair donation. In the chair biography they say the inspiration for their chair was the lobster.
Their chair features pictures of different species of lobster, and Adrian, with a twinkle in his eye, says the “skinny†lobster on the back of the chair is a rare species to be found only in Musquodoboit Harbour. Holding up a remarkably thin lobster trap he explains how the “skinny†lobster would easily escape through the large mesh holes in a normal lobster trap and that the “thin†lobster trap he is holding was specifically designed to catch the elusive “skinny†lobster species. As the proprietor of The Lobster Shack Restaurant he explains how “skinny†lobster are ideal for making lobster sandwiches as they fit neatly into the sliced bread roll!
The Mulgrave Road Theatre chair auction promises to be a fun event. Visitors can view the donated chairs at the Jost Wharf Building on Guysborough waterfront on Sunday July 29th during the day where events for the Guysborough Come Home Week will be in full swing.
Bids will be taken for the silent auction until 4.00 pm on Sunday July 29th when the winning bids will be announced.
