LETTER TO THE EDITOR: from Kaye Cohoon, Canso.
I, along with my sister and a friend attended the play “By the Dark Of the Moon” in the new Performance Centre in Guysborough on Sunday evening. We went up early hoping to have dinner before the play however every available space was filled in the three restaurants that we tried; we did wait for about an hour at one place and finally had to leave before being served.
With such a wonderful Centre now available to the people of Guysborough and surrounding areas, and the hope of bringing in some big-name entertainment in future, I think it would be a priority to concentrate on providing more or larger dining establishments rather than a Civic Centre, which is clearly not a necessity, since Canso has a perfectly good Arena to serve all the hockey players of the county, as it has done since it opened.
Both Canso and Guysborough have wonderful fitness centres and swimming pools, and with Stanfest now having a permanent stage for “outdoor” theatre, and with the new Performance Centre in Guysborough it seems the only thing lacking is enough dining facilities to accommodate all those who will be coming in to the area in future.
When the play was over I overheard several people say it would be nice to have a place to go for a coffee and a bite to eat, however every restaurant was then closed. It would be helpful even if the present establishments would consider having extended hours at a time when an event is being held at the Performance Centre.
Also, there is no place between Guysborough and Canso where one can stop and enjoy a meal. With tourism being such an important item in our area these days, what a golden opportunity for some young and ambitious entrepreneur!
Yours sincerely, Kaye P. Cohoon, Canso, N..S.
