Hidden on the bottom of our rock strewn coastline, invisible to all but the fish and a few divers, lie many a sunken ship. But one large freighter, skewered on a reef at the tip of Cape Gegogan, on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, is in full view of the inquisitive sea kayaker and we can even paddle inside the hold.

The sunshine created micro-niches of warmth and sunlight in the woodlands of the Gully trail and despite the somewhat seasonally cooler weather an array of Warblers: Yellow, Black-and-White and Magnolia, were represented together with sightings of a Catbird.

The signs posted by The Canso Harbour Authority are clear: for now the wharf is closed. This means of course that the wharf is unavailable to Tall Ships that might be passing from Halifax following the Parade of Sail on Monday July 16th on their way to the ports of Port Hawkesbury, Louisbourg and Sydney in Cape Breton.

The 11th edition of the Stan Rogers festival featured a collection of artists from Scotland to Tuva, but it was the overload of Nashville talent that truly blew the Canso crowd away.
First time performer at Stanfest, Audra Raulyns, a Toronto native who has been living in Nashville since she was a young girl, took the stage by storm; her sultry jazz vocals booming from her tiny frame.
