Mulgrave Road Theatre has a weekend of belly laughs planned for July, 2008.
Headlining a weekend of comedy will be CODCO allumnist Andy Jones, fresh from an appearance at the prestigious Magnetic North Theatre Festival in Vancouver.
His one man show ‘An Evening with Uncle Val’ will open at the Chedabucto Place Performance Centre
in Guysborough on July 25th.

Andy Jones is the hilariously sarcastic Uncle Val in ‘An Evening with Uncle Val.’ An indignant, 70 year old retired fisherman, displaced from his outport home, Uncle Val is now trapped in the ‘big city’ of St. John’s. The year is 1987. Homesick, Val struggles to figure out what life has left to offer him. Is there anything of use for a senior citizen in the suburbs to do? Any reason for him to continue on? Is there any mystery or magic left for him to discover?

Uncle Val’s journey brings us an evening of Christmas reminiscences, encounters with the Beatles, and the danger of St. John’s winters, or as Val likes to call it: The Seniors’ Olympics. There are births, deaths and even romances, as Val struggles to find his place in ‘city’ life. There is also the ongoing drama of his obnoxious son-in-law’s George Street pub, and there’s Uncle Val’s devilish brand of babysitting “Do’s and Don’ts”, drawn from his experience as live-in babysitter for his daughter’s rhyming youngsters, Jimmy and Kimmy.

The critics have gone ‘arse over kettle’ in their praise of the play and Jones’ performance: “Do yourself a favour and go see An Evening with Uncle Val” — Elissa Bernard The Halifax Chronicle-Herald
“One of Canada’s greatest comedic actors, Jones is not to be missed”
– Ron Foley MacDonald Halifax Daily News
“There’s no other humorist in Canada I would rather spend time with.”
– Robert Crew Toronto Star

‘An Evening with Uncle Val’ is written by Andy Jones and Michael Jones, Sr., performed by Andy Jones and directed by Lois Brown.

Performances will be held July 25 and 26th at 8:00 p.m. at the Chedabucto Performance Centre, Guysborough, NS. Tickets are available exclusively from the CPPC box office and go on sale May 20th. All seats reserved. Don’t delay. Call: 902.533.2015
