Mulgrave Road Theatre announced today that it will be establishing a script commission fund in memory of former Artistic Director Allena MacDonald who passed away on January 14, 2008.
“We wanted to celebrate Allena’s life and her contribution to the theatre and our community,” explained MRT’s Artistic Director Emmy Alcorn. “We felt a script commission fund would be the ideal tribute to Allena and we were delighted when her family enthusiastically agreed. New play development was a big part of her life and now that legacy won’t be forgotten.”
Mulgrave Road Theatre remains at the forefront of Canadian theatre in the development of new scripts that explore the Atlantic Canadian experience. Seven of the theatre’s previous works were presented across the country in the past year alone, including THE SATCHMO SUITE, which was originally developed under Allena’s tenure as Artistic Director.
Funds will be collected and released when a suitable script and monies become available. It is hoped that with support from the community the script commission will be awarded regularly.
